3 Ways To Make A Great First Impression

If you spot someone from across the room, you may wonder how to get their attention or how you can get them to notice you before you go over to them.

Or you may even want to get their attention so that they come over to you.

Whichever it is, here are 3 tips to make a lasting first impression and how to get them to notice you – in a good way of course!

1. Open body language

If we feel threatened or uncomfortable, our body language will naturally become closed.

We may cross our arms if we feel uneasy, squint our eyes if we disagree with something someone has said or keep your head down if you are trying to avoid something or someone!

When we feel comfortable and confident, our body language will become open.

We will stand up straight if we are feeling comfortable with our head held high and shoulders back or have our arms at our side rather than crossed.

Confidence is more attractive and by opening your body language, you will already appear as though you are more confident and create a better first impression.

It will also make you seem more approachable and friendly if you seem more comfortable in your surroundings.

2. Move slowly

If you are always on the go and do things at a 100mph, moving slowly may sound like something you cannot do.

But fast movements or fidgeting are signs that you are anxious or nervous.

You want to avoid any fast movements or fidgeting as someone else may pick up on these movements and feel uneasy around you.

To appear more confident and approachable, you want to move slowly and calmly.

Slowing down your movements, will give you more time to think about what you want to do and say, which will make you move and speak with more purpose.

As you can see, confidence is the key to a lasting first impression and by moving slowly you will appear more confident and comfortable.

3. Be social and friendly

Imagine somebody who is chatting to everybody and being polite to everyone they come into contact with – that is somebody that you would want to approach or be approached by.

Not somebody who is ignoring everyone and hasn’t smiled the entire time.

To make a lasting first impression, you should be social and friendly to everyone that you come into contact with.

By interacting with everyone in a friendly manner, this will highlight to the other person that you are warm and friendly, without even needing to speak to them – and it shows them that you are a warm person to approach, or if you are approaching them, they will have seen that you are friendly to everyone, and they may feel more comfortable if you approach them.

You can appear social and friendly by making eye contact with people in the room and not avoiding this – and smiling at everyone you do make eye contact with!
